The Vineyards Behind Our Wines
Thoughtfully sourced. Intentionally grown.
At Lane Cellars, our approach to winemaking starts long before the grapes reach the cellar.
From our own estate vineyard to the growers we intentionally partner with throughout Washington, we believe exceptional wine begins with healthy vines, thoughtful farming, and respect for the land.
Our vineyard relationships are chosen with the same intention we bring to our wines: a commitment to quality, sustainability, and allowing each varietal and growing site to express itself naturally.
Our Estate Vineyard
ROOTED IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST
At the Lane Cellars estate vineyard, we grow cool-climate grape varieties chosen specifically for their ability to thrive in the conditions of the Pacific Northwest.
Léon Millot, Maréchal Foch, and Cayuga White offer both beautiful winemaking potential and natural resilience. Their disease resistance and adaptability to cooler, more challenging growing conditions allow us to take a low-intervention approach in the vineyard and farm without herbicides or pesticides.
Rather than asking the land to conform to the grape, we believe in choosing varieties that can work with the environment around them.
It is a philosophy that supports healthier vines, more thoughtful farming, and the kind of viticulture we want to practice for years to come.
What are hybrid grapes?
Hybrid grapes combine characteristics from European and American grape varieties, bringing together qualities valued for both winemaking and resilience.
Many hybrid varieties have been developed to better withstand disease, cold temperatures, and challenging growing conditions while still producing distinctive, expressive wines. Research programs including Cornell University and the University of Minnesota have played an important role in the development of modern cool-climate grape varieties.
For us, they make sense for where we grow and how we want to farm.
Our Vineyard Partners
Beyond our estate vineyard, we source fruit from a select group of Washington vineyards whose approach to farming and stewardship aligns with our own.
HORSE HAVEN HILLS, WA
Destiny Ridge sits high above the Columbia River in the Horse Heaven Hills. The combination of sun, slope, soil, wind, and water creates a unique growing site, with the vineyard’s constant winds helping reduce pressure from pests, rot, and fungal disease.
That allows the vineyard team to use a gentler approach in the vineyard, focusing on balanced crop levels and careful, sustainable management throughout the growing season.
WALLA WALLA VALLEY, WA
Located in the southern portion of the Walla Walla Valley, Seven Hills Vineyard is guided by a simple philosophy: grow high-quality grapes with the softest approach possible.
The vineyard is part of VINEA, a sustainability program developed specifically for the Walla Walla Valley, and focuses on minimizing unnecessary inputs while working with the conditions of the site. All fruit is hand harvested so the grapes can be handled gently and carefully from the vineyard onward.
YAKIMA VALLEY, WA
Located in the Yakima Valley, Lonesome Spring Ranch follows Vinewise Viticulture standards, with an emphasis on responsible vineyard management and continual improvement.
Their approach focuses on the long-term health of the soil, water, and vines — values that closely align with how we think about farming and winemaking at Lane Cellars.
From Vineyard to Glass
Our approach stays simple from the vineyard through the cellar: start with quality fruit, farm thoughtfully, and let each wine reflect where it came from.
With a minimal approach to winemaking, we allow the grape, vineyard, and vintage to speak for themselves.
The result is elegant, approachable, food-friendly wine made to be enjoyed and shared.
